It has been SO LONG since I’ve shared a garden update with you! Here’s what’s been happening in our little plot.
For the most part, I haven’t posted an update in a while is because my garden has been a sad state of affairs the past couple of months. My summer plants never really grew well and since we were gone for three weeks, I came back to some sad-looking plants. I’ve been wanting to plant my fall/winter vegetables for a while now, but until two weeks ago, it was still super hot here, and I knew they wouldn’t last.
Once the last heat wave was done, I went straight to my favorite nursery and picked out some new plants! I still have the rosemary and strawberry plants in my plot, but I’ve now added carrots and romaine lettuce.
I grew carrots from seeds last year and loved having them, so I knew I wanted to plant them again. I didn’t start them from seeds this year, but I’m still looking forward to home grown carrots in a couple months.
I’ve never grown greens, but also knew that I wanted to try my hand at it this year. I was looking for spinach plants, but decided to go with romaine lettuce. I’m not sure why, since I use spinach quite a bit in smoothies and recipes, but the romaine was calling my name, so I grabbed a flat.
I’m looking forward to the next few months and watching these new additions grow. I normally visit the garden while Cecilia is at preschool, but I took her to the nursery and to my plot this time around and it was great to see how even more into it she was. She really missed being at the garden and did a fantastic job helping me dig holes to plant.
Stay tuned for another update soon!
