Who doesn’t love a great smoothie? Whether it’s for breakfast or a mid-day pick-me-up, smoothies always hit the spot for me.
I now share that trait with Cecilia.
If I would let the girl drink smoothies all day long, she would totally do it. It’s ironic that she would because she absolutely HATES the blender. I mean, she loves it because it makes her favorite drink, but she still gets so scared of the sound. She recently stopped crying when the blender would go on, but she still tugs at me for dear life as she watches her favorite ingredients whirl away.
It’s like Food Blogging 101 to make the title of your recipe posts as descriptive and keyword-y as possible in order to attract readers and get more hits when people type words into a search. I just couldn’t do that with this smoothie, though, so you get the title “Cecilia’s Favorite Berry Smoothie.”
If I really got all descriptive the title of this post/recipe would be “Apple Berry Banana Yogurt Smoothie with Spinach, Oats and Chia.”
WHAT?!?!?!? Say that five times fast!
All joking aside, this really is Cecilia’s favorite smoothie. It was the first smoothie I ever made her way back when and she still loves it. She has a special cup she drinks her smoothie out of, so when she goes to the drawer to grab it, I know exactly what she wants. We enjoy this smoothie together (heck, it’s MY favorite smoothie, too!) and she loves to say “cheers” and clink glasses before each sip. Melt my heart…
This smoothie is thick and creamy and this recipe yields enough for us to get a few medium-size servings each. I keep the blender of it in the fridge for a few hours after our initial servings and if we don’t finish it, I pop the rest into freezer trays with popsicle sticks and make smoothie pops.
No smoothie gets left behind in our house!
Cecilia’s Favorite Berry Smoothie
Yields 2-3 adult-sized smoothies
3/4 cup organic whole milk
1/3 cup organic whole milk plain yogurt
1/3 cup organic unsweetened applesauce (I buy the jar from Trader Joe’s with the only ingredients being apples and water)
Handful organic baby spinach
3 tablespoons old-fashioned rolled oats
1 teaspoon organic chia seeds
1 banana, broken into 1 inch pieces
1 1/4 cups frozen organic berry blend
- Place all of the ingredients into a blender (in the order listed) and blend until smooth.
- Serve and enjoy!
