Why hello, November! Even though I’ve been looking forward to you and all the travel, food and holiday prep you bring, I want to wrap up October before I really think about you more.
Here are my October favorites…
Halloween – Y’all. I was never really a Halloween fan before Cecilia was born. Sure, I loved trick-or-treating as a kid, but as an adult I was never big into celebrating. If there was a REEEEEEALLY good party, I’d get dressed up and go out, but I never put much thought into it. Since Cecilia was born, I’ve had so much fun deciding what she’d be, putting her costume together and going to as many pumpkin patches and Halloween events as possible. This year Cecilia dressed up FIVE times in two different costumes. Last Friday, we went trick-or-treating in Little Italy and on Halloween we went to a few houses around our neighborhood. Cecilia was an absolute pro! While she didn’t get up the nerve to say “trick-or-treat,” she had no problem agreeing with people who mentioned how cute she looked and did a cute wave to everyone as she left their home. I can’t wait for next year!
Family Photos – In early October, we met our photographer in Balboa Park to take our annual family holiday card photos. We got our photos back a couple of weeks later and I am absolutely 100% in love with all of them. Our photographer caught a ridiculously cute moment with Cecilia on camera and the photo is most definitely going to grace our holiday card this year. Last year was the first year we took professional photos for our holiday card and I love that it’s become a tradition. It’s rare that we have a photo of the three of us that isn’t a selfie, so I really treasure the gorgeous photos of us when we’re in nice clothes and smiling all together.
Preschool Visits – Over the past couple of months, we visited four preschools we were interested in Cecilia attending. I loved seeing how different each school was and imaging how she would fit in in each place. We’ll find out in March where she’ll go and we hope we get our number one choice, but know she’ll be happy in any of the places on our list.
Cooler Weather – While we did have a few hot streaks in October, for the most part the weather was much cooler than it has been which I hope means that the lower temperatures are going to stick around from here on out. You just never know, though, here in San Diego. The one time Travis and I stayed in town for Thanksgiving it was 85 degrees! My fingers are crossed that the boot, scarf, warm coffee and hot chocolate weather sticks around!
Birthday Parties Galore – Cecilia went to sooooooo many birthday parties in October! They were all so much fun and I really love celebrating her friends’ big days. My favorite thing nowadays is to watch the birthday child’s reaction to “Happy Birthday” being sung to them. It’s always so sweet. Even though I’ve only celebrated one birthday with Cecilia, it’s a special day for the parent’s as well and it’s become a treasure to celebrate such a momentous occasion in their lives, too.
