Life is certainly crazy with an incredibly active toddler in the house, so we get out as often as possible to let her run around and enjoy our beautiful city. Here are some of our favorite places to visit with our favorite girl (besides the beach)!
The New Children’s Museum – We became members of the museum last Fall and it quickly became one of our favorite spots to visit with Cecilia. The museum is great for crawlers up to school-age kids and has exhibits to entertain all ages. The museum hosts a ton of family-friendly events each month and is an all-around great place for kids to explore. Their newest installation, Wonder Sound, is special to us because Travis plays some of the music that is played in it! As a bonus for those who are members, there is a member-only time every Sunday morning, so you can enjoy the museum before it opens to the public.
Waterfront Park – We have been Waterfront Park groupies all summer! I can’t even count the number of times we’ve been, but it’s up there. This place is great for most ages and even Travis said it’s one of his favorite places to go. It’s hard to beat the view from Waterfront Park, so grab an umbrella and some food and make an afternoon out of your visit. There is also a giant playground nearby (should the kids get tired of the fountains) and they just started hosting a Sunday Farmer’s Market.
Birch Aquarium – The aquarium is one of our new favorite places. Travis and I had gone a couple of times before we had Cecilia and enjoyed ourselves, but now that we have her, our trips are even more fun and exciting. Parking has been super simple each time we’ve gone and seeing the whole place is manageable in one morning or afternoon. Kids can touch some sea life in the tide pools outside and there is a great outdoor area for them to explore and have some fun with water.
San Diego Zoo + Safari Park – We’ve been Zoo members since before we got married and love that we can now share the zoo and Safari Park with Cecilia. Most of our park trips are impromptu and we love being members, so we can go for an hour or two, see that animals we want to see and then go home. Both parks are gorgeous and incredibly clean and the volunteers are so helpful in answering questions and educating you about each exhibit. Our favorite animals to see are the orangutans, lions, elephants and giraffes.
Balboa Park – Balboa Park is our second home. Cecilia knows her way around it like it’s her own backyard and she loves to run around, people watch and explore. The park is home to San Diego’s best museums, The Old Globe theater and some fantastic restaurants (Panama 66 is tasty and kid-friendly). Even if you don’t visit a museum, there’s no shortage of fun things to do and gorgeous places to see.
