My Fall garden is in full swing!
My pepper plants (small red bell peppers and Anaheim chili peppers) have been producing like crazy and don’t look like they’re going to stop any time soon. I thought they might be done because they had produced so much already, but just yesterday I saw lots of new flowers which means more peppers are coming!
The Anaheims have been great to have because I’ve either chopped them up and put them in whatever I was making to add a little kick or roasted them and had them with eggs/breakfast tacos.
The small red bell peppers are really cute, but have sooooooo many seeds! I swear it’s the same amount as a regular sized bell pepper, but in something about 1/10 of the size. Those are more cumbersome to just add into a dish, but I’ve done it on many occasions and like the sweeter taste they add.
Since my last update, I’ve planted some brussels sprouts! I tried to grow them from seeds last year when I first got my garden plot, but had zero luck with them. This time I started with small plants and they seem to be growing well so far. The only problem is, I noticed today that a bug of some sort is chowing down on the leaves of one of my plants, so I’ve got to find a friendly way to make that stop.
I hope the sprouts work out and I have pictures of huge stalks to show you soon!
I do have some extra space in my plot right now, but I think I’m going to wait until my pepper plants are done before I add anything else.
Oh, and on an icky note, I found a big fat friend living in my soil while I was digging to see if I needed to water more after the rain we got yesterday. He was a big one. Looked like a worm, but Travis said he was a grub. At this point I don’t know if that’s good or bad for my plants because I don’t want to Google it. If I see pictures of him and all his friends on my computer, I will start itching and think that bugs are crawling all over me.
I’m actually scratching all over right now just thinking of it.
Just so I don’t have to Google it, do any of my gardener friends know if I should just leave him be or try and get rid of him?
Ugh, now I have to stop typing and go think of happy bug-free things…
