Summer is coming! Summer is coming!
Yes, I know we’re still in the thick of Spring, but with the warm weather sneaking up on us and with my garden full of strawberries and tomatoes, I can’t help but shout those three words from the rooftops.
My strawberry plants are doing okay, but the size of their fruit is starting to get smaller and smaller each time I harvest. I also feel like their output is decreasing. They were going fast and furious when I first planted them, so I hope they start to flourish again.
My herbs are growing like weeds! It seems like I have to make huge cutbacks to my rosemary bush each week and all of a sudden my thyme has doubled from where it was a few months ago.
Is anyone wondering about my brussels sprouts plant that was looking amazing in my last update?
Well, friends, I had to get rid of it 🙁 WWWWWWWAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!! Those darn cabbage aphids attacked it again and even though I tried and tried to save my plant, nothing worked. Ugh. I was so bummed. This was the second time I’ve tried to grow brussels and the second time I haven’t succeeded. I’ll try again next year.
In place of my brussels, I now have two tomato plants. I LOVED having an abundance of home-grown tomatoes last summer, so I’m super excited about these. I got different varieties from what I got last year and I’m looking forward to how they compare. One of them is a sweet cherry tomato variety and the other is a San Marzano or San Diego variety. I’m actually not sure which one it is because while the tag on it at the nursery said San Marzano, I got it to the garden and saw there was another tag on the other side that said San Diego.
Womp, womp. I guess we’ll see what it is once it starts to grow!
I’m also starting a little garden on my patio at home! I’ve had my orange tree since last year and now I’m starting a bunch of flowers from seeds in little peat pots. Eventually I’ll plant them in a larger pot and have them near our front door and on our back patio.
Oh, speaking of my orange tree – I don’t know what I’m doing wrong with it. I had sooooooooo many flowers on it a few months back and was so excited to be drowning in oranges once they matured. Now I have ZERO buds! They all fell off and since all the flowers are gone, too, I don’t think I’ll have any oranges this year. I’m so bummed! Is this normal? Or am I doing something wrong? Tell me!!!! I want oranges!
