It’s that time of year, folks! Here are my 2018 personal goals!
In my first goals post a couple of years back, I mentioned that I don’t make resolutions, but rather, I set goals for the new year. I used to keep track of them in a Google spreadsheet, but now I just put them on the Internet for everyone to read – talk about accountability! Of course, you don’t have to post your goals on the internet, but you should at the very least write them down. I find that not only does it help you remember your goals, but that way you can map out a plan of action for reaching them and set time aside to check-in with yourself and how you’re doing and adjust anything, if needed. If you’re looking for a little more guidance, you can read this post from the archives about how I establish and keep track of my yearly goals.
Below are my personal goals for 2018. You can also take a look at my goals from 2017 and 2016 if you need any ideas. Just like I have the past two years, I’ll be sharing quarterly reviews of my progress on these goals, so be sure to check back here for those! I’m excited to set these goals with you and work toward achieving them together!
Reading – Last year my goal was to read 24 books. I was super close to reaching it, but fell of the reading wagon a few times throughout the year, so I didn’t get there. Since I know that life may become a bit unpredictable in a few months once baby brother gets here, I’m making this goal challenging, but still within reach. I’ll be sharing my number with you on Friday!
Health + Fitness – I’m currently six months pregnant and still teaching and/or taking Stroller Strides classes about three days a week. Some weeks it’s more, some weeks it’s less, but that’s what I shoot for. I want to make it a goal to continue that for as long as possible (I would love to do it up until my due date), but, of course, I’ll do what feels comfortable and safe for me. I do want to get up and walking (even short distances) as soon as I can after birth, but, again, will be listening to my body and only do what feels good. I’m not one who tries to get back down to my “normal” size as soon as possible – I let the weight comes off as it needs to. Of course, I want to get to feeling like myself, but I’ve found that pushing myself to lose weight just frustrates me. Honestly, with Cecilia it took me about nine months until I was able to fit into AND feel good in my pre-baby clothes. You can read more about my thoughts on this topic here. Pretty much my goal for this year, is to stay active at my current rate for as long as possible, take the time my body needs to heal from birth and then gradually work up to the activity level I was at before I got pregnant. Stroller Strides (and maybe some solo runs) will be how I get there. Not only does Stroller Strides provide a great workout, but it keeps me sane!
Family + Relationship – This is going to be a biggie this year! Just like I couldn’t imagine how our family and relationship would change once Cecilia was born, I can’t really predict how much our life will change once baby brother makes his debut. Until baby #2 is here, my goal will be to focus on our little family of three as much as possible. I want to try to get away for at least a night before he’s here and savor those last days together as a threesome. Once he’s here, I want to make sure I still get my one-on-one time with Cecilia that I hold so dear to me as well as make it a goal to get out for kid-free dates with Travis. This will certainly be a year of adjustment for us and I’m hopeful we have a smooth transition to becoming Maril Party of FOUR!
Home – If you read my wrap-up of my 2017 goals, you know I totally bombed at this goal. I’m going to keep the same goal as last year and try to finish the paint touchups that need to be done around the house. We also need to replace our patio door and the window in Cecilia’s room as well as repair the floor from the water damage we had last year. We’re making SOME progress on that right now, but are hoping to get going soon because I totally stress out every time I see rain in the forecast.
Financial – I had a financial goal back in 2016, but didn’t last year. For 2018, mama’s got to get back to making some money! I’ve been making hefty student loan payments each month since I graduated with my Masters, but the savings account that has been coming from needs a boost. Stroller Strides, some sponsored blog posts and Beautycounter have been helping and will continue to throughout the year, so I’d love to continue to grow in all of those areas and possibly pick something else up that I can fit it into our family’s schedule.
Personal Growth – This is another big one for me this year. I could probably go on for a while about the reasoning behind this one, but what it all boils down to is that I want to stop getting in my own way when it comes to making big (sometimes scary) decisions in my life. I think so often I keep myself back because I’m afraid of what others may think or I’m afraid of being rejected or looked down upon in some way. I’m totally over letting that hold me back, so this year I’m going to try to get out of my own way and achieve all my goals no matter how scary or big they may be.
Now it’s your turn to share! What are some of the goals you’re working toward this year?
