During the craziness of the holidays, there’s nothing better than cuddling up with a warm blanket, some popcorn and a great movie at the end of the day. Here are my favorites to turn on this time of year…
The Holiday – I’m not embarrassed to say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie. I actually saw it in the theatre when it came out and I think I love it more now than I did then. I not a big Cameron Diaz fan, but this movie is such a good one to watch this time of year that I can totally overlook that. I think it’s a sweet and funny story with the happy ending you want. What I also want? To live in the town that Kate Winslet and Jude Law do in the movie! If you haven’t seen this one, I highly recommend it.
Serendipity – I guess this isn’t TECHNICALLY a holiday movie, but it starts at Christmas time and it snows, so I’m going to say it’s a holiday movie. I saw this one in the theatre, too, and the story has just stuck with me and it’s got a really great soundtrack which is a total bonus. It’s one of those movies (just like a few others on this list) that when it’s on TV, I have to sit down and watch the whole thing no matter what. The sweetness of the story is what I crave this time of year.
A Charlie Brown Christmas – You can’t debate the amazingness of this movie. AT ALL. I’ve watched it multiple times a year since I was a little kid and I love that I’ve passed the love down to Cecilia. We’ve watched it on repeat this year and this story will always warm my heart. I love Linus’ monologue about the meaning of Christmas and the iconic Charlie Brown Christmas tree. This one has another great soundtrack that I love to listen to as much as possible around Christmas.
White Christmas – I only recently saw this movie all the way through and started to love it. The cast is phenomenal and I love all of the singing and dancing. It’s another feel good movie with a happy ending.
Love Actually – I think I was the last person on the planet to see this movie. All of my friends had talked about it forever and I was always the one who would shock them when I told them I hadn’t seen it. This shocked one of my friends so much that she bought it for me so I had no excuses. I’m always a little weary of movies that have the blockbuster cast and 15 different storylines, but this movie plays this out well. And it makes me want to spend every holiday season in England 🙂
Sleepless in Seattle – Again, not technically a holiday movie, but it begins at Christmas time and features big family dinners, so I’m going to call it a holiday movie. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love this movie and how much it makes me want to go to the Empire State Building on Valentine’s Day. I even made a point to watch An Affair to Remember when I saw it pop up on Netflix, just so I could get all of the references made to it. So good.
You’ve Got Mail – Sweet movies with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are the best ever. There’s snow in New York City in this movie, so it makes me think of the holidays even if it’s not specifically a holiday movie.
Well, as you can tell from the list above, I’m a BIG fan of the rom-com with the fairy tale ending this time of year. I’m sure some of your favorites aren’t on this list, but I have to admit I’ve never seen A Christmas Story and it’s been so long since I’ve seen Christmas Vacation and Home Alone that I felt like I’d be a cheater if I said it’s a movie I love to watch this time of year. For those of you shocked by that, I’ll make a point to watch them this year and update this list for next year!
