Santa Barbara is quickly becoming one of our favorite cities to visit.
Since having Cecilia we’ve taken a few road trips along Highway 101 and have stopped or stayed in Santa Barbara a handful of times. You may also remember that Travis and I stayed in nearby Montecito on our babymoon in the summer of 2014. We explored Santa Barbara on that trip and as we’ve gotten to know the city better, we’ve made it a must-stop place whenever we travel through. We’re also talking about taking a weekend or Spring Break trip there this year.
Eating is always at the top of our priority list when in town and we’ve found some great places that I highly recommend.
Santa Barbara Public Market
Before our babymoon trip, I did some research on places to eat and zeroed in on the Santa Barbara Public Market. I love public markets like this because you can cruise all of the vendors, order what you like from each and share with whoever you’re with in order to try a bunch of different places at once. The SBPM is uber clean and has a good variety of food to choose from. There is also a great wine shop/bar and, coming later in 2016, a new beer garden. We have hit up the market for breakfast and lunch and one of our favorite spots to grab food is Flagstone Pantry. We’ve had everything from quiche to soup and salads to sandwiches and haven’t ordered anything bad yet! To go with our meal, we grab some coffee from Green Star Coffee and I ALWAYS get a sampling of cupcakes from Enjoy Cupcakes. I love Enjoy Cupcakes so much that a post just on them is in the works! Even with it’s proximity to super popular State Street, parking has never been an issue for us at the market.
Los Agaves Restaurant
During one of our overnight stays in Santa Barbara, we hit up the De la Vina location of Los Agaves. Cecilia was only four months old, so we needed to go to a place that was fast, inexpensive, but super tasty. After a quick Google search we ended up here and it did not disappoint. Everything tasted super fresh and, for the price, the portions were generous. Oh, and the margaritas were great, too!
McConnell’s Fine Ice Cream
Y’all. McConnell’s is SO FREAKING GOOD. Like, no words can’t express how good. We first stopped at McConnell’s on our first road trip to the Bay Area with Cecilia when she was just shy of four months old. You can see a picture of what I had here. One thing I love about McConnell’s is that if you just want one scoop of ice cream, you can split it between two flavors there. So, my husband and I each got two flavors. From that first trip, we fell in love with one of their signature flavors – Eureka lemon and marionberry. Since then, we’ve made it a point to stop at McConnell’s whenever we can and try as many flavors as possible. On top of all of this, the best thing ever happened a couple of months back, when I was strolling through my neighborhood grocery store and saw McConnell’s ice cream in the freezer section! EEK! Check your local stores for it and you will not be disappointed if you buy a container. Our favorites are Eureka lemon and marionberry, chocolate covered strawberry and salted caramel chip.
When we’re not eating, we like to visit some of our favorite Santa Barbara sites.
State Street is the main street in downtown Santa Barbara. Here you’ll find some theaters, coffee shops and tons of restaurants and shops. Oh, and if you’re in the mood for ice cream, McConnell’s has a location there!
We found this gem of a playground on our last trip to town and it’s located just a few blocks off State Street. If your kids need to let of some steam during your visit, this is THE place to go! This playground is gigantic and can entertain a wide range of ages. There are restrooms right behind the playground and it’s surrounded by a large grass area.
This gorgeous beach is located across from the Four Seasons Biltmore and is technically in Montecito, rather than Santa Barbara proper, but I’ve read there is a bike path from the SB pier to this beach. It’s such a nice, quiet place and is perfect for your morning walk.
There you go! Our list of favorite spots in Santa Barbara. I’ll be sure to update you on more of our finds after our next visit!
